December - The Quiet Silence of Snow
As I continue to bead my theme "The Pursuit of Peace", I have been reminding myself of all those things that give me a sense of both peace and joy. I started my December page a week and a half ago, the day we received a half of foot of snow in only a few short hours. I work from home so I get to enjoy the snow. I would walk outside with my dog, I would marvel at its beauty and at the sound it made. The sound was like that of a ting on a crystal glass, then I realized these were crystals, thousands of them. And as they fell, the quietness was so peaceful.
Also as I was beading, I realized I have two stories going on, my pursuit and my walk on the island. I am referring to Madeline Island. The island is in Wisconsin on Lake Superior. No matter what emotional state I am in, as soon as I cross onto the island I can feel the land drain all that negativity out of me. It is the only place where the knots on my neck and shoulders have a chance to go away.
This month's photo is of the shoreline, I can walk for hours up and down the shoreline looking at rocks and sticks!

Your post and your beaded page certainly brought vivid memories back to me of wondrous snowfalls. And it sure made me want to see that island, too! This is a wonderful piece, Brenda . . .

Your post has inspired me to Google Madeline Island and learn about your 21-island Apostle group. It must be a little similar in some ways to where I live.. accessible by ferry, a little town at one end (where all the tourist stuff is) and the rest of the island seeming to be from another age. Yup, it's peaceful and I know what you mean... get on that ferry and all the crap falls off my shoulders which then lower themselves about 3 inches. So nice that you are beading this place and your journey toward greater peace in your life! I love all of them... and think I've neglected to mention the borders... they're fab! Hugs, Robin A.
Ha, you have found the key that unlocks your special place where serenity is attained and you are at peace. Some people never know it. It doen't have to be a "get away". You know it if you are lucky enough to find it. Nice that you can share yours with us through your beading.
Brenda Ive been there also . Last year we drove the iceroad when we visited my daughter is Ashland Wi. Summers are great too. I also love snow-white and pristine. When Im inside warm and dry. But...today its snowing in St.Paul and quite frankly Im sick of snow. Your piece brought me back to appreciate the beauty of a fresh snowfall. Thanks Julie C
I wish I had an island like this! It's nice to know that you can go there and find peace and that you are able to enjoy the snow that falls. I love the look and the peace it brings me until I have to find my car and drive in it! Your page is just what you wanted - peaceful.
ooo very lovely! Makes me want to get back up to the Apostle islands.... we always love it there, and being relatively close, I don't know why I don't go there more often. anyway, great page!
Your snow peace makes me want to see what "snow" is all about. Living in the desert I have no experience with the white stuff.
Thanks for making such a lovely piece.

I enjoyed your piece and your snowflake is lovely. I love snow as well and find it very very peaceful. Have you ever seen the book Snowflakes? It is an amazingly beautiful view of snowflakes photographed with a special microscopic camera and shows the true beauty of each flake.
This is so pretty in every way. I love the simplicity of the background and the detail of the actual snowflake. It is such a pretty piece. Good work!
Thanks for sharing your beautiful peaceful piece, as well as your story! Blessings!
Warmest aloha,

Your posts for all of your series do make me think of Peace when I look at them. And I like the way your writing really brings them to life.
