Obstacles

This year of the BJP, just to reiterate, I wanted to add more elements to my beadwork. I have done that with using my own photos of Madeline Island, I have tried to incorporate some of my rubber stamps, and then I have added fabric (Illusion tulle and fiber). Then the theme of the year is The Pursuit of Peace. I wanted to bead those things that help me find my inner peace. This month my theme is obstacles.

One of my favorite things to do on the island is to walk the shoreline, my back is bent for hours looking at sticks and stones. And then sooner or later I will happen across a downed tree, its roots have given way to erosion. When I come across this obstacle I have this funny attitude, I just know that the best stone or stick is going to be just on the other side. I will wade through freezing water (this is Lake Superior) or if it is too far out I will climb through the branches, getting all scratched up. It just doesn't matter, I know there is something great once I get past that.

Life lately has given me a ton of those obstacles. I have looked at them and felt the urge to turn around and run the other way. No more. I am going to remember that feeling I have up on Maddy. I am going to face it head on, knowing that if I get beat up a little and come out the other side I am going to find the jewel I have been searching for.

Happy Freedom Day to all!

Oh Brenda I love this. I actually felt a tinge of joy when I looked at your piece. I am sorry you are struggling, though I have no doubts you get to the other side. and it will be worth it. Thanks for the inspiration. Julie

Leap, LEAP, LEAP over the obstacles... ARABESQUE with flower in hand, over the logs you go, seeking the best life has to offer on the other side... Faith allows the leap, and you have it! This one is a keeper for all of us, Brenda! Love, Robin A.

I love the picture of you leaping. We should all do that. Today I saw a sparkler in your hand, lighting the way.

My sister once told me that her philosophy about obstacles was that they are speed bumps that she simply had to go over to get to the other side. And your figure of a leaping woman is doing just that, gracefully and with beauty.

Oh your page is so beautiful! I love how gracefully you are leaping over obstacles. Without obstacles we would never learn that we can leap and come out just fine, wiser and smarter, once we get past them. yay! great page, Brenda!
